Greetings Park Adopters & Stakeholders!

As park adopters and stakeholders, The City of Flint extends an invitation to you for our upcoming community workshops for the City’s Five Year Parks and Recreation Plan. The time and effort you have contributed to our neighborhood parks makes your feedback, ideas, and questions invaluable to the creation of this plan. Your adoption and hard work are vital components to our community’s enjoyment of our parks and this work could not be done without you.

We hope you will be able to join us at one of our community workshops:

Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Berston Field House 5:30-7:00pm
Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Brennan Senior Center 5:30-7:00pm

The Planning and Zoning Division is currently drafting an update to the City’s Five Year Parks and Recreation Plan. This plan is required by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for state grants and it describes the City’s strategies for providing parks and recreation. This plan will align with the highly participatory 2013 Imagine Flint Master Plan’s goals and objectives.

At these workshops we will revise the strategic guiding principles and goals of the proposed Five Year Parks and Recreation Plan. There will also be a “dollar exercise” where you can tell us how to you would like us to “spend” your Park Millage dollars. We value your comments as they will help determine which improvements are most needed in our park system and how the City can best spend our limited millage dollars and staff time. Your guidance will also help us determine the types of partnerships to form and strengthen to help improve our parks and faculties.

This important community input will be used to create a draft plan this winter. Following its completion, the draft plan will be made available for public comment and further edits. The revised draft will then be presented in a public hearing before the City of Flint city council officially adopts it early next year.

Please join us and share your thoughts and input concerning Flint’s J. Dallas Dort Park System and help guide the City’s strategy for the next five years!
