Dear Flint Community Advocate,

My name is Katherine Kuhn and I’m a member of AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps). I am writing in hopes that you will share the following information about a community cleanup taking place this Sunday 8/28, with your network. Thank you in advance! Here is the event notification/information:

AmeriCorps NCCC is a national service organization for 18-24 year olds, which allows teams of 8-10 people to travel around different regions in the United States to serve non-profit organizations, faith-based groups, and government agencies. My team, Cedar 7, has been in the Flint area since the middle of July, and we have absolutely fallen in love with it. Since our arrival, we have worked with Flint Community School Corps to run a two-week pilot STEAM Camp for over 100 hundred kindergarten through seventh grade students, as well as work with the City of Flint Blight Elimination Department to board up abandoned homes and clean up vacant lots to create safer routes to school. However, our time in Flint is coming to an end. With that being said, we would like the opportunity to get to know and work alongside Flint community members.; therefore, Cedar 7 would like to invite you to a “Community Day.” On this day, August 28, we will be cleaning up the area around a school that will soon be reopening. Clean up could include: clearing brush, boarding up houses, painting decorate boards, or picking up trash. If you have any tools that could make the day go smoother, such as ladders, drills, or gloves, feel free to bring those along, as well. After the event, we will have a celebratory event to thank each and every one of our volunteers for their service and dedication to the Flint area. In short, we want to make this day a big success! If you feel compelled to do so, please sign up to volunteer with us and/or share this information with a friend, family member, or co-worker who may be interested.
