Wonderful news! – our community was selected as one of the few areas across the nation to receive nearly $5 million in funding to implement the Flint Resiliency In Communities After Stress and Trauma (ReCAST) grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services. The Flint-ReCAST will promote resilience, community empowerment, and long-term well-being for area families and youth, given the stressful situations faced by people in Flint and surrounding areas.
Dr. Vicki Johnson-Lawrence from the University of Michigan – Flint and Dr. Pamela Pugh from the City of Flint invite you to participate in series of discussions that will focus on the needs of Flint residents.
We want to hear from Flint residents about the types of needs, resources and activities that will individuals, families and the Flint community. There will be three meetings on November 29th & November 30th. Community residents are invited to share their opinion on the needs of the community. Please share this email with your network so we can spread the word about these meetings. If you cannot attend, please send a representative from your organization. The attachments and descriptions below provide additional detail about each session.
Tuesday, November 29th, 2 to 4 PM – Community Agency Partner Meeting
This will be the 2nd of 6 agency level meetings we will hold to develop our community plan for the implementation of the ReCAST grant. This process will directly influence how the ReCAST funds will be spent. Please attend and be prepared to discuss resources and programs of your agency that support resilience, community empowerment, youth violence prevention, community trust, and long-term well-being. Please also share if these are known trauma-informed approaches to prevention, engagement, and/or treatment.
Tuesday, November 29th, 6 to 8 PM – Youth Meeting
We would like to ask Youth (through age 21) about Youth needs, resources, and activities that would be most valuable to Youth. This process will directly influence how the ReCAST funds will be used.
Wednesday, November 30th, 4 to 6 PM – Community Resident Meeting
We are holding a series of 5 planning meetings to ask Flint area residents (through age 21) about the types of needs, resources, and activities that will support your resilience, and help you to rebuild the well-being of your family, friends, and community. This process will directly influence how the ReCAST funds will be used.
